Tarot of the Day: Queen of Pentacles

Today we're working with Queen of Pentacles from "Tarot of the Pagan Cats"! I picked this deck up yesterday from Namaste Bookstore in Manhattan and I'm so happy I did -- I've been dying to get my hands on this deck!

"Tarot of the Pagan Cats" was something that I would have scoffed at a few years ago... a witchy cat deck?So kitschy, right?

I was pleasantly shocked to find that not only was this deck SO CUTE but also very true to the symbolism and artwork in the Rider Waite Smith Tarot (which, for those who are new to tarot, is the deck that introduced tarot as a tool for introspection in the west when it was published in London in 1910).

Queen of Pentacles is a strong and powerful figure because she/he/they is secure in themselves. When the wind rattles their whiskers, they stay focused on the tasks at hand.

Queen of Pentacles is highly motivated and finds joy knowing that she can build a life that is uniquely hers. She feels secure in her assets and is an expert time manager.

She knows when to decline and accept invitations, and makes her motives known whole-heartedly. The Queen of Pentacles knows that in order to be as successful as possible she has to get clear with her motives and share her goals if she wants to continue to grow.

This character is expert around the home and loves inviting people over. She wants all of her guests to feel welcomed, and often fills them with food and drink to show her affection.

Her element is in the home and the spaces that she's spent so much time and effort in creating.

The Queen of Pentacles knows that abundance is endless, and there is always plenty of resources to go around when she's in charge!

If you are in the company of a hostess, you may want to tell her how much you appreciate the positive space and atmosphere she provides. If you often feel that you take on this role, thank YOU for being a facilitator.

Here are a few things to think about when considering this card. These questions are meant to help you use the Queen of Pentacles archetype to the fullest!

  • Who reminds you of the Queen of Pentacles and how can you thank them for being grounded and giving?

  • How can you feel more one with your body and your home today?

  • Once your body and your home is taken care of, how can you help to facilitate a giving and gracious community?

If you are just beginning to learn tarot, I suggest studying the Major Arcana before diving into the Court Card meanings. Check out this article from A Little Spark of Joy to get started.
